What we do

Ideas into action

Free Range Collective helps organisations connect with communities, develop ideas and turn plans into practical, engaging projects. We work across heritage, culture and local communities, combining creative thinking with the experience and practical skills needed to make things happen.

Our support is flexible. We can take responsibility for a complete project, deliver a particular strand of work or become an extra pair of experienced hands within an existing team.

A joined-up approach

Our services rarely sit in isolation. A heritage project might need community consultation, an exhibition, a programme of workshops, marketing and evaluation. A parish council might need a resident survey followed by community engagement and a communications campaign.

Free Range Collective can deliver one clearly defined element or bring several strands together, giving you a flexible team that can support a project from its earliest ideas through to delivery and evaluation.

Our Services

We help organisations understand, reach and involve their communities. From consultation and audience development to activities, partnerships and co-production, we create meaningful opportunities for people to have a voice, take part and help shape the projects and places around them.
We work with town and parish councils, village halls and community organisations to help them understand and connect with local people. From neighbourhood surveys and public consultation to communications, venue promotion, events and community projects, we provide flexible additional capacity when it’s needed.

We research, develop and deliver exhibitions and interpretation that bring stories, people and places to life. From pop-up and community-curated exhibitions to touring displays, interpretation and supporting materials, we create accessible experiences that encourage people to discover more.

We help organisations understand what worked, what changed and what can be learned. We develop practical evaluation frameworks, gather quantitative and qualitative evidence, engage participants and stakeholders and turn the findings into clear, useful reports that demonstrate impact and inform what happens next.

We design and deliver engaging workshops and training for communities, volunteers, staff, young people and project teams. Sessions can be created around a specific project or objective and range from practical and creative workshops to facilitated learning, consultation and skills development.

We can develop a one-off session or a complete programme, adapting the content and delivery style to suit different audiences, settings and levels of experience.

We develop and deliver events that bring people together and give them a reason to get involved. From talks, workshops and family activities to community celebrations, festivals and larger public events, we can support everything from the initial idea and programming through to promotion and practical delivery.
We help good projects reach the people they are intended for. Our support can include campaign planning, social media, websites, newsletters, PR, printed materials, audience development and event promotion – creating clear and engaging communications around your project or organisation.

One-off projects

Have something specific you need to get done? We can take responsibility for a defined piece of work, such as a community survey, consultation exercise, event, communications campaign, venue marketing project or programme of engagement. We’ll agree the scope and outputs with you, manage the work and provide the additional capacity needed to take it from idea to completion. This can be particularly useful when you have a project or funding deadline, need independent support for a consultation, or simply don’t have the time or specialist resource available internally.

Ongoing Support

For organisations that need more regular help, Free Range Collective can become an extension of your existing team. We can provide an agreed amount of support each month across community engagement, communications, marketing, events and project development, responding to priorities as they arise.

This gives smaller councils, venues and community organisations access to experienced support without needing to create an additional permanent role – while still providing continuity and someone who gets to know your organisation, your priorities and your community.
